The Puma Series
The Puma in most traditional cultures around the world represents the power within each individual to embrace his or her spirit and devour a fear with courage. I had read a book by Peter Mathiesen called Snow Leopard. In it he told the extraordinary personal tale of a traveler trekking through the Nepal Mountains with a biologist looking for a Snow Leopard in the mid-seventies. They never did see the leopard, but in his journey he discovered much about his life. In honor of that snow leopard, I, too, was trekking the inner regions of my own spirit, trying to find a language that could describe my love for a woman that I in turn realized was my love for god. That adventure was as stunningly beautiful and frightening for me as the pages of Mathiesen's book. This series of paintings is an exploration to finding a language for my spirit to speak about the one Spirit.
